Moray edged out Highland 2nds by 43 points to 40 in an enthralling Arnold Clark Caledonia Division 1 fixture at Morriston last Saturday, maintaining their 100% winning start to the league season.

The Elgin side took the lead in the 9th minute as a result of dominant scrummaging. A final scrum, 5 metres out, was picked up, driven and wing-forward Beinn Hay managed to wriggle his way over the line. Captain Rory Millar added the conversion for 7-0.
Highland regained the ball from the restart and after a number of phases scored an unconverted try for 7-5.
In the 18th minute and after several drives for the line, Moray were awarded a penalty try for 14-5 when the visitors deliberately halted the scoring of a certain try.
In the 29th minute, the Inverness side reduce the lead to 14-12 when after pressure in the 22, they took a quick tap penalty and scored.
In the 35th minute, some strong home driving play through the middle sucked in the defence. Set ball was quickly moved wide to wing Andy Humberstone who made the line out wide for an unconverted try and 19-12.
Moray pressed again in the closing minutes of the half again found themselves driving for the line. The ball reached Millar who was stopped inches short but Humberstone was on hand to pick up and crash over for his 2nd, an unconverted try and a 24-12 half-time lead.
The home side pushed hard early in the second half but when Highland retrieved a kick in their 22, they opened up and after some good rugby, and some missed tackles, they ran the length of the field and scored a converted try to reduce the lead to 24-19.
In the 48th minute, Moray forced play into the 22. The visitors secured ball, however, and again went to run from deep but in this instance, Hay intercepted the pass and scored his 2nd of the afternoon. Millar converted for 31-19.
Both sides were having a real go at each other but in the 61st minute, the Elgin side stretched the lead further. The ball reached centre Connor McWilliam in the 22 and his strong run was stopped, 5 metres short. In the tackle, he was able to offload to supporting Millar who made the line. He converted his try for 38-19.
Highland were down but not out and in a 2 minute spell around the 67 minute mark, they scored two converted tries with strong, quick running out wide to pull the score back to 38-33.
The Inverness side were eyeing a win but the was determination in the Moray side and they returned to the offensive. In the 71st minute, the Elgin side were pressing in the 22 and the ball reached Hay taking a great line. He got past the first line of defence then drifted past 2 final defenders to score his 3rd, an unconverted try for 43-33.
With 5 minutes left on the clock, Highland scored a converted try after a number of phases in the 22. With the score at 43-40, the game was set up for a crucial last few minutes.
Moray pushed hard to get a final try but were eventually turned over inches from the line. They then managed to thwart any final Highland efforts, keeping them in their own half and closed the game out.
It had been an enthralling encounter with the Moray scrum being totally dominant for large parts of the game and the team playing some good rugby. Highland after the break, threw caution the wind and looked to run from anywhere on the pitch causing real issues in the home defence.
Next Saturday, Moray make the long trip to Thurso to take on Caithness in the league.
