MUNTLY AND GRANITE CITY TAKE HONOURS AT MORAY 7S FESTIVALS
Wed 16th May 2018
Moray RFC played host to a festival of Youth Rugby 7s at Morriston Playing Fields last weekend, with 18 teams travelling from as far as Thurso and Aberdeen contesting across 4 age groups.

Saturday saw the Under 18s and Under 16s take to the field in fantastic rugby conditions and both age groups served up a feast of hard fought, flowing rugby 7s.

After the Under 18 group stages, Granite City and Gordonstoun were in top spots and contested a tight fought final with Granite City just holding off a Gordonstoun fightback to take the title by 33 – 26.

Saturday also saw the U16s do battle and Granite City were victorious once more after an extended group format, with Ellon runners up and Muntly third.

Sunday began with completely opposite conditions from Saturday in heavy rain; despite the challenging conditions underfoot and greasy ball, the standard was exceptionally high for both Under 13s and U14s.

In the Under14s Muntly, Granite City, Highland and Ellon progressed from their groups to contest the semi-finals and it was Muntly and Highland who eased into the final.

Muntly then continued their unbeaten form to convincingly take the trophy with a 59 – 12 victory over the Inverness outfit.

The U13s competition was the tightest age group of the weekend with all 5 teams performing well.

After seeing off 2 Muntly sides and Ellon, Highland and Granite City contested an extremely tight final that went down to the very last play of the match; Granite City were the victors once again running out winners by 24 – 17.

Both days saw considerable support royally entertained by the best of the young rugby talent that the North-East has to offer.
