MORAY V ORKNEY U16 SAT, 25TH SEPTEMBER
Mon 27th Sep 2010
Moray U16 continued their league programme with a home match against Orkney on Saturday at Morriston

The boys knew this would be a tough encounter against the Orcadians and it proved to be a compelling match for the spectators.

Orkney kicked off and Moray after several phases of play gained ground and set up a ruck in the Orkney 22. The backs moved the ball quickly out the line to Kieran Cowie on the wing and he sped round the last 2 Orkney defenders to score. Ewan Stuart continued his fine kicking form to convert a difficult kick from out wide.

Orkney came straight back at Moray and from a knock on at the restart had the home team under pressure. After several rucks and drives into the Moray 22 they scored through a forward drive which resulted in a converted try.

Moray restarted and the ball was gathered by the Orkney standoff who ran straight back at Moray. Sloppy tackling allowed him to make his way up the right hand touch line and score in the corner.

The first half continued with both teams pressing each other and looking to create a scoring opportunities, to no avail.

The second half continued in the same vain with both teams pressing but unable to create a scoring opportunity. Orkney were finally the team to get the breakthrough after a drive by their forwards led to a break and try which was converted.

The final result was a win for Orkney by 19 points to 7

The Moray squad were understandably disappointed to lose a game which was finely balanced. Missed tackles were the main reason points were lost and when Moray were attacking, moves broke down through wrong options being taken at crucial moments. The squad can learn from this defeat and move forward by focussing on the key parts of their game which have led to success in the matches so far.

Next week sees Moray make the long trip up to Caithness for the final league match of this term
