MORAY 0 HIGHLAND 67
Thu 19th Sep 2013
Highland resoundingly defeated Moray by 67 points to nil in the RBS Caledonia League Division 2 North fixture at Morriston Playing Fields last Saturday.

From the kick-off the Inverness side took control of the game with their big pack dominating in the loose and the backs taking resultant ball from a deep line and at pace. The Elgin side manfully tried to defend but their well organised opponents recycled quickly and cleanly and found holes in the defence.

In the first half the Inverness side scored six well worked tries, three of which were converted, for a 0-36 lead at half- time.

There was no let up after the break and Highland continued their try scoring spree adding five further tries, three of which were converted, for a final score of 0-67.

Although they were completely outplayed and were well beaten, the heads of the Moray side never went down and they kept trying and were unfortunate not to go over the line late in the game for a consolation try. Too many times they lost ball in contact or were turned over in the ruck situation and in defence, the line did not get up quickly enough to cut down the space the Inverness backs were enjoying and using. One positive, however, was that the scrum faced up to the big Highland pack and secure their fair share of ball.

Highland were clinical and impressive and are odds on favourites to win the league and promotion. After having a poor season last year and being relegated, they have turned the corner with new enthusiasm and a new coaching team. The stats this season's are impressive having played three games, scored 176 points and conceded nil.

The young Moray side will learn from the experience.

This Saturday the Elgin side are away to Fort William to play Lochaber in the league.
