MUNTLY VALIANT IN DEFEAT TO GLOUCESTERSHIRE CHAMPIONS TETBURY: MUNTLY U13/14 0 – 29 TETBURY U14
Thu 20th Apr 2017
Moray/Huntly U13/14s played an extremely well drilled and physical touring side from England last Sunday.

Last season’s Gloucestershire Cup winners were in imperious form and dogged Muntly resistance did exceptionally well to maintain parity through much of the game.

Opening exchanges saw Tetbury dominating possession and territory, but Muntly defence applying enough pressure to force turnovers.

Tetbury broke the deadlock through a switch in attack direction, outflanking the Muntly defence.

Similar fayre followed with Tetbury possession and territory cancelled out by Muntly defence, until fine handling released their pacey left-winger to run in from halfway.

A scrum win against the head allowed Tetbury to exploit space on the right for their 3rd try.

A line-out win and rucks taking play infield, resulted in a Tetbury forward bursting onto a short ball to score their 4th from 20 metres.

Directly from the restart, lax Muntly tackling and good back-row support running allowed Tetbury to extend their lead.

Muntly enjoyed their best period of pressure prior to the break; camped on the try-line, a score looked inevitable; however, Tetbury’s defence held.

The tighter second period saw Tetbury run in 3 more scores, the best of which was a scything run by the winger from an inside pass.

Tetbury also added 5 conversions.

Muntly can be extremely proud of their performance against a high-class outfit, many of whom are on the books of premiership outfit Gloucester; at no stage did they let their heads drop and their fine tackling drew plaudits for the Tetbury coaches.

Muntly: Alexander Naylor, Cameron Morrison-Smith, Tom Letch, Josh Austin, George Lunn, Jai O’Brien, Connor Falcus, , Dylan Price, Alex Logie, Jack Calam, Frankie Gillespie (C), Iain Stuart, Ross Arnott, Lewis Hay, Mylo McBain, Scott Cousar, Archie Wilson, Euan Willetts, Euan May, Roddy Manson, Scott Riach, John Rodwell
