MORAY 2ND XV 17 NORTH POLICE SCOTLAND 74
Wed 25th Apr 2018
Moray 2nd XV came up against North Police Scotland in BT Caledonia League Division 3 North last Saturday, eventually going down by 17 points to 74 against a team vying for promotion.

The first 10 minutes or so were evenly balanced , however, the police broke the duck by scoring a couple of tries through their backs in a 5 minute spell.

This sparked the Elgin side 2nds into action and for the next 10 minutes, they camped in the opposition 22. Only some good defence kept them out, that is until an infringement at a ruck give stand-off Callum Witkowski chance of 3 points which he duly took for 3-10.

The visiting team scored another a third converted try shortly after the restart to extend the lead to 3-17 but Moray were relentless in their pursuit of a try and got their rewards when No 8 James Angus went over after from some great work from the forwards. Witkowski added the conversion points for 10-17.

The Elgin side were competing really well against the side with promotion hopes but in the final minutes of the half, the big Police side managed to add a couple more tries through their fast and strong backs to lead 10-31 at the break.

Moray continued to compete well early in the second half but had no answer to the big Police centre who was instrumental in another couple of scores.

As time wore on, however, the home scrum became more and more dominant, so much so that after a number of infringements near the line, the referee awarded a penalty try.

The effort on a particularly hot day told in last 15 minutes, however, and the Police side ran in a number of tries to very much flatter the final score line at Moray 2nd XV 17 North Police Scotland 74.

A number of injuries in the club had depleted availability for the 2nd squad but Moray had competed really well throughout the game with the main difference being the speed and power of the Police central back line.

The Moray 2nd XV should take great heart from their performance to their next game away to Aberdeen Wanderers 2nds this weekend.
