ABERDEEN GRAMMAR SCHOOL FP 2NDS 59 MORAY 1ST XV 0
Wed 9th May 2018
Moray 1st XV were well beaten by 59 points to nil in their penultimate BT Caledonia League Division 2 North fixture against Aberdeen Grammar School FP 2nd XV last Saturday in Aberdeen.

The length of the season, which kicked off in August last year, has taken its toll on the squad and due to numerous injuries and availability issues, they travelled with only a team of 15 plus Coach Baz Grimwood as the only sub.
On the other hand, and with their 1sts season concluded, the Aberdeen side were able to field a squad of 22.

Grammar took a 7-0 lead with a converted try after 3 minutes but Moray tried to respond immediately and applied some pressure in the 22.
A knock-on at a line on the 5 metres, however, allowed the ball to be gathered and cleared.

The home scrum was strong and causing problems, the backs were playing an expansive game as they had real pace on the wings and they dominated the next 30 minutes scoring 4 tries, 3 of which were converted, for a 33-0 lead.

In the final minutes of the first half, Moray had a good opportunity of getting themselves on the board when they put together a number of phases of play near the home line.
Solid tackling kept them out and lost ball at an attacking scrum 5 allowed the ball to be cleared.

The Elgin side tried on a number of occasions to get themselves into the game in the 2nd half but the Grammar team were able to deal with anything they threw at them and their stand-off made good use of the wind to peg Moray back.

In the second period they added 4 further tries, 3 of which were expertly converted by their stand-off to win the game at AGSFP 59 Moray 0.

The Aberdeen side had been well worthy of revenge for their early defeat at Morriston but although there had been much endeavour and effort, it had been a hard afternoon at the office for the Moray side.

The final league game of this long season is this Saturday when Moray are again away from home, this time to take on Ross Sutherland.
