HIGHLAND REDS 29 MORAY 24
Mon 25th Oct 2010
An exciting top-of-the league clash between Highland Reds and Moray in Inverness saw the lead change hands four times.

A young Moray side sustained a lot of early pressure from the home team and then took the lead a bit against the run of play. Highland replied with two quick tries.

After more end to end play Moray levelled game up with a converted try and went into half time even at 12 apiece, which reflected the match.

Early second half belonged to Moray but Reds scored to take the lead 17-12.

Moray rallied well scoring two tries which showed the value of support play between forwards and backs. Kicking duties taken on by Andrew MacBean. One successful, one missed, Moray lead 24-17.

Sadly Moray lost a couple of crucial players to injury and began to lose their cohesion. Reds had one game plan with Fijians running strongly as battering rams and eventually equalised. Then despite tiring looked like the team most likely to win game which they ultimately did with an uncoverted try late on.

Consistency, ball retention and decision making were issues for Moray. When on top Reds struggled with Moray pace, support and set piece play. However, when in front Moray rested on their laurels and relaxed allowing Reds back into game. Also a young defence showed some naivety in adversity and ultimately Reds had stronger desire to win.

The final score was Highland Reds 29 Moray 24 and 5 points is also the difference between these two at the top of the table.

Moray scorers were AN Other, Ross Joy, Jason Ogg and Marc Higgins. Ross Joy, who played magnificently in the loose until he was injured, was declared man of the match.

This Saturday Moray play hosts in another key match at home to Kinloss, kick off 2pm.
