 A solid defensive display provided the base for Moray to record a crucial 18-7 victory against North Police Scotland in Elgin last Saturday, in their penultimate Tennents Caledonia League Division 2 North fixture.
The Police side threatened early on and should have taken the lead in the 11th minute but failed to touch down after going over the line. Moray rallied and in the 24th minute opened the scoring. A number of driving phases took them into the 22 to a ruck. Quick ball was moved wide and wing Stewart Bright broke the tackle and made the line out wide. Rory Millar could not add the conversion leaving the score at 5-0.
 Late in the half, the Elgin side manufactured a couple of good opportunities in the Police 22 but inaccuracies meant ball was turned over and cleared.
In the last play of the half, the visitors had a good chance to score but strong defence and a penalty infringement halted the opportunity leaving the half-time score at 5-0.
Moray started the second half strongly and in the 48th minute, stretched their lead to 8-0 when Millar landed a penalty following an infringement at a ruck.
 The Aberdeen side tried to reply but defence was sound. Mid-way through the half, however, they turned over ball in the home half and the lively open-side flanker picked up ball and found a good line that took him to a converted try, narrowing the lead to 8-7.
Moray immediately returned to the offensive and a number of phases of driving play took them into the opposition 22, to a ruck. Hooker Marc Higgins picked up at the base, broke to the blind-side and outstripped the defence to make the line. Millar landed the difficult kick for 15-7.
The Police tried hard to respond but defence was tight and effective and they found it difficult to make progress. In the 83rd minute, this effort forced a penalty 35 metres out and Millar slotted the kick for 18-7, a lead they held to the final whistle.
 It had been a hard working and well-deserved victory for Moray. The strong defensive display was key, restricting chances for the Police side and helping secure ball to create opportunities to put points on the board.
This Saturday, Moray play their last league game of the season away to Mackie Academy FP.
